Air leak

Post by andrewzagreen »

When reving engine with hood up I can hear air being sucked in from somewhere around the back towards the bulkhead. Any one any ideas as to what this could be or is it time to remove the intake and fit a new gasket?

use a propane torch (unlit) and wave the gas around where the leak could be if the idle goes up there is a leak there.
how is the idle anyway if it is leaking it should be rough.
cherrio!

The tickover is constant at around 750rpm, I can only hear the leak when reving the engine, will try the gas torch although with the leak sounding as if it's around the back will probably not be able to see anything

could be a vris leak . one of the actuators could be shot and when the car activates it it hisses. make sure the vris valves are working properly
the egr controllers are also on the fire wall and are vacuum controlled which may also hiss above idle
[ February 24, 2003: Message edited by: aaron the hic ]
