timing setting?car running too rich?

Post by corona »

I seen that my car is not burning all the fuel completley, you can see and smell fuel unburned from the muffler. the gasses smell like pure fuel. I took the spark plug out to see if it was burning right but unfurtunaly they were black. Also the car hesitate when you step on the gas or floor it in 1st gear.and when you shift you can hear a big explosion. The idle is rough and low and sometimes it shut down. can it be that the timing is off or can it be a cap and distributor problem? Please give me and advice. By the way the car was parked all the winter. I took it out friday. :( :(
