Falling apart
My car is falling apart. In the 8 months I have had it my oil filter busted, and my engine almost seized when I was driving with NO oil, my car is leaking, and finally, my exuast split in half. I got under my car, and the welding actuallg came away from the cat. O well, SO to answer the age old question, what brand ( I am leaning towards Brullen ) and what size piping? (Apparently I won't have enough back pressure with 2 1/4, but i know a Miata that runs just fine with that size.) I want Borla, but they only make 2 1/4, while I can get a Brullen 2 inch pipe, but I have to make an hour drive to order it. So somebody PLEASE help me, I am so sick of the loud droaning noise. My brother always says one thing after exiting my car "Thank you for flying American Airlines"<BR>Thanks guys

hey,<P>My exaust let go at the cat as well... And i just ordered the Brullen Cat-Back. It has <BR>2.25 inches in diameter... I'm dropping the 2.5 this summer so it should be just fine. Anyways just go on there site at Brullenexaust.com and go to dealers, call the one closest to where you live and have them ship it to you, thats what i did... mine should be here tomorrow can't wait !<P>good luck...

The deal with pipe size is that if you run bigger pipe than your engine needs, you will gain nothing at the top and loose some bottom. I'm not sure what the best size would be for an MX3, I guess it would all depend on what else you have done, the more HP you have the more gas you are gonna need to get rid of . The reason you loose low grunt with a big pipe is that you loose gas speed. You see air has mass and if you keep the gas speed up the inersia will tend to stop any back flow during small valve openings and valve overlap at TDC. So the best usualy ends up being a free flow muff on a smallish pipe. To find the best though there is so substitute for dyno testing, the ultimate size will give you as much top as the big pipe and preserve most of your low end, but being as most people don't have the ability to test multiple pipes on their car the best thing is to ask someone who races successfully, and expect to use a smaller pipe than the pro race engine as you aren't likely to be producing as much power in your street car. Sorry to ramble, my main point is that bigger is not always better.
