A/C causing flat spots
A/C causing flat spots
Hi,
Has anyone had problems with flat spots (dips in acceleration) which happen only when the A/C is running? I have and I was wondering what was wrong (seizing compressor perhaps)?
My car also has mystery oil usage with no obvious cause (e.g. passes compression test, no blue smoke or oil puddles). Anecdotally it 'appears' that my car only uses the oil with the A/C running. I do not understand this (extra engine load = extra oil burning?), has anyone else come across this?
Thanks
Re: A/C causing flat spots
I think it depends on the type of engine you have. If it is a 4cyl SOHC, it only has 88 horsepower so the a/c is going to take quite a bit of power to turn the compresser. If it is the V6 then you might want to check the ISC valve to make sure it is working properly. As for the oil situation, I have a '92 SOHC 4cyl. that goes thru about a quart of oil in about 3K miles. I currently have 216K miles on it, but don't see any signs of burning or leaking oil so I figured it was just normal. You might also check the sparkplugs for signs of oil. Hope this helps.
Later, Robert
