Well I am going on my 8th year as a certified install with a First class MECP which is the second level out of three certificates. I also have an Ontario Automotive certification for Install Automotive accessories such as remote starters and alarm systems ect. I have been through training about 7 or 8 times a year buy vendors and other certified installers.
YOu must renew your certification every two years by law.
Killermx3

depends on how much you already know. getting your mecp certification can be as simple as having your local library proctor the exam. have you tried www.mecp.com they have a practice exam there.

Well if you dont have any electronics background with resistance and ohm's law and voltage functions ect. then you would never pass even the entry level exam..you need to understand more than just how to hook up a deck or amp before you acn take the test. As for the Ontario Government certification you must have over 4000 proven inshop work hours with remote starters and alarms before they even alow you to take the test. Hope this helps.
Killermx3
