engine serial numbers

Post by zoidberg »

So I recently bought a 92 MX-3 RS from a dealer. It started running really bad after only a couple of days. (Similar to the second to last post before this). The dealer said the head was bad and they had to replace the engine, so after they had it for a week supposedly they did.
It runs somewhat better now but still not the best. But I don't think they actually did replace the engine, and I want to call them on it. The "new" engine is clean, so it's hard to tell.
Is there a serial number on the engine that will correspond to a serial/VIN number on the body? And if so where is this number?

Man..that really sucks.
I dont know about hte serial codes, but FRMO NOW ON say you want them to ReRe/ replace and return your parts. If they swapped the engine then ask to see the old one. If they can't provide the old engine or a junk yard that has it then call them on it. Hell, you could have a good lawsuit on your hands.
Elena, don't misunderstand. A pro isn't someone who sacrifices themselves for their job. That is just a fool.

Alright, I put it up on jacks and had a good look, and it appears that they did change the motor. (So maybe I'm a little paranoid)
But they wouldn't even tell me where it was getting fixed, let alone letting me see the old engine. If they say they are fixing it for free I can't really demand too much, I guess.
Now it starts every time, but the idle still surges when the motor is hot. (And nearly stalls at lights). This shouldn't be the valves as the motor is new (used). But I'll have the MAF sensor and the idle air speed control valve checked out.
