Haha! i only just got your comment, Wytbishop... (It's been a crazy year & I haven't gotten round to coming online!)
Yeah, trust me, I've tried every trick in the book to try bulk up a little... short of doing protein shakes & working out twice a day... I'm not that committed haha! It runs in the family ;)

john1983,

Have you found an alternative turn signal setup for your bumper yet? I can't believe I didn't notice you posted pics, I would have replied!

You're right about it being a commitment... I work out 5 days a week, all because I sprained my ankle last year and slipped into a lazy depression. I went from 165 solidly built to 188 all soft... I'm at 155 LEAN and mean now, trying to bulk up in the right places only  It's about 15 hours a week to maintain and improve. If I wanted to get big fast, I'd have to double that. My solution to a light workout load is to lower my calorie intake, and that's helped to minimize the damage this past month I haven't worked out as much. I lost some muscle mass, but didn't gain any fat in it's place.

Honestly, you CAN build muscle if you put the time and effort into properly planning a solid routine, with a healthy diet at the core. I was 4'11 and about 95 pounds my freshman year in Highschool... by the end of my Junior year I was my current height and heavier/more solid than I am now. So 5'10 and roughly 165  I miss those days, before injuries kept me from being as active.

Yeah, i mean for about 2-3 years I was working out for about 1/2 an hour a day, pretty much every day. I'd worked out 1-2ce a week doing 1/2 hr cardio, then 1/2 hr gym stuff for a few years before that, but mostly did it for fitness. I got good definition & put on a little muscle after doing it daily, but I haven't bulked up at all, really... I've since taken up cycling in to Uni a few times a week, which saves petrol ( vital for students! :D ), and also means I can't forget to do excersise! One reason for the shift is that our gym equipment got shifted from the spare bedroom to on the deck out the back of the house, exposed to the (very occasional) rain, but more importantly, the hot, glary summer sun/cold cold winter mornings (I know, 5 degrees Celcius isn't that cold, but for me it is!!)... We're just coming out of winter now, so I'll probs start getting back into the early morning workouts soon, now that the mornings are getting a little warmer :D
But yeah, my mum works in a mental health ward in a private hospital, working mostly with Anorexic people. She said that if my eating habits weren't like what they are, she'd be able to admit me to the program based on my weight/height hahaha :freak:

Haha wow, just spend more time on it and eat like a horse! ;D That's what I'd do, if I wanted to bulk up! I'm trying to maintain at the moment, although I will shoot to gain 15 pounds of muscle this Fall... Good times!

Haha yeah, I try to eat as much as possible, its just that staying long & lanky is in the family - My uncles were uber-strong farmers when they were young, and still stayed real sklnny... Likewise my cousin who manages a farm in the countryside a few hours out of my city - He's 6'7" & skinnier than a beanpole, despite being one of the strongest people I know... its just that the muscle has a long way to stretch!! haha!
Here's a pic I took this morning before uni :)

I bulk up as easily as I gain fat, it is sad really... It means that my muscle can turn to fat all that much faster. Talk about disappointing; If I work out... I have to keep doing it, or it makes me look worse.

  No, it can't. Muscle and fat are 2 different kinds of tissue.
What that means is that your body can adapt faster than normal to the circumstances, storing energy (fat) when possible/needed, or bulking up faster. That is (at least from an evolutionary point of view) a good thing.
And yes, you need to keep working out, or at least, you need to stay active. Everybody does. That's part of the fun.

Ethand, if you REALLY want to bulk up, I can give you the diet and routine I used when I was training on Olympic weightlifting. You WILL gain muscle very fast, but it involves some really serious eating and training. Just let me know.
