HAHAA...lol.I'm working on a carPC as well. Mines a Pentium 2, and it's only going to be used for playing MP3s on the hard drive. I will most likely be going to carlisle as well, and it should be installed when I get up there. It's voice activated using a custom made plug-in for winamp, which a friend of mine wrote from scratch using Microsoft Voice SDK version 5.0. Well at least I'm not the only one working on it, although I was hoping to be the only one, in order to have a unique addition in my car. O well.
 BARRY: Maybe you could put a CarPC section on the bulletin board? Just a suggestion, probably not practical though.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with Winamp 3, only 2. I don't know the answer to you XP question, because 1) I'm still getting used to XP on my new Dell and 2) I'm using Windows 98 on the carPC. Sorry

any updates from anyone? I'm getting a new computer for college so I think this ol' clunker I'm on will be going to the car. I was going to use the spare tire well as a battery rack for my 4 spares, but I won't be doing that now that the new USACi rules came out :( :(

I was at one time looking into getting a USB LS-240 drive and mounting it in the cubby-hole up front...oh, WAITWAITWAIT!!
A Co-worker bought a USB 2.0 Hard Drive Enclosure (3.5" ION™ Drive Enclosure) and gutted the circuitry out and connected a CD-RW to it instead of a hard drive cause his laptop doesnt have a burner. You can put the PC whereever you want and just run a USB cable from the pc to whereever you want the CD-RW. I'm not sure if it'll be fast enough to play dvd's ith DVD-ROM unless you are running USB 2.0, but even that im not sure

for my 4 spare batteries. I won't be using any spare batteries anymore :(
Where is your antennae located for your WiFi? How big is it?
I think I'll make a mount for the cd-rw on the side of the hatch somewhere so its not in the spare tire well. That way its easy to allow access for it.
We'll have to wait and see.....

BumpNGlow, do you NEED to have a spare tire now? Why?
I use a D-Link DWL-520+ WiFi Card but it has only a small attached antenna, and got ****ty range cause it was hiding in teh trunk, surrounded by metal, but the reason i got it was cause the antenna can be changed, fortunately, i have a co-worker with a MSI motherboard and the bluetooth adapter, but he didnt like the antenna dangling all over the place, fortunately my antenna connector is the same as his bluetooth, so we swapped antennas, so how he has an antenna thats hard-attached to the pc, and i have one that can sit on top of my hatch cover, out of the trunk, it incresed my range to my house from about 1 house away fait signal, i had to park beside the house to transfer files, to almost 4 houses away with a faint signal, 3 houses i can connect to my network
Image
Wardriving is great, i have 3 favorite hot spots to get net access
[ March 05, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

aaaa, sooo pimp! And no, I don't need my spare tire anymore. I have it in ther enow only as a way to prop the box up (so the false floor doesn't sag from the weight of my box). If I ever got a flat tire I would have to call AAA or a friend anyways b/c I already took out the jacks, etc. I can't wait to do this now!

ok....this week's spring break and I'v started to build my system. The case is going to be all plexiglass and there's gonna be a blue light inside. If u wanna see an example of what it'll look like here's a site I used as inspiration: www.dsoh.tk. The case should be finished by Wed. and I'm ordering the IRman and the LCD screen today so the whole project should be done by next week. I'll post pics when I'm done.
