how do you deal with suicide?
wel i just got a text from a good female friend of mine.. a homegirl (that i like and that likes me, we just don't want to tell each other), who told me that an overdose that she recently had of medicine was a suicide attempt. she's had a lot of relationship/school problems lately and tried to kill herself. ive comforted her and talked to her about a suicide attempt of my own before and tried to connect with her... but im afraid that's all i can do for her. what have some of you guys done in this sort of situation?

Re: how do you deal with suicide?
Well suicide is usually a result of an underlying mental illness triggered by traumatic events. She should see a Doctor and get some counselling, maybe even start taking medication, like paxil or prozac. I know people frown upon taking drugs to be happy but those people dont truly understand the feelings or even the science behind emotion.Originally posted by marshmallow15:

But I know from experience that anyone depressed or having an emotional time HATES to be alone. I just went through a really ****ty time and still am. You'd be suprised how quickly a good mood will turn to a hopeless feeling when theres noone around.
So talk to her and help her out in anyway you can, ask her if she wants you to be there with her, watch some movies, pick her up some of her favourite foods. **** like that man, and talk to her about seeing someone for help.

Re: how do you deal with suicide?
unless you urself have dealt with suicide personally, it would be hard for you to relate to her problem. the best thing you can do is just be there to listen to her

Re: how do you deal with suicide?
until you have dealt with suicide yourself you don't understand it.
i will admit to having had many of panic attacks. life, school, work, parents, etc all hit you at once and you think killing yourself is the way out.
a great friend of mine committed suicide because of trouble with the law. he was caught with cocaine at school and was told he would be expelled and would be able to go to any other school in the state but the one he was at, but they ****ed him. He got blocked from going to any school for 1 year. He ended it. Not only did he hurt his family but he hurt his friends, his teachers, and his girlfriend deeply. His parents were very very hurt and couldn't go through the trama. i was their 'cushion' as i was the closest to him. it hurt me more to see them in their situation then anyone could imagine.
For those whom attempt, plan to, or have Please rethink before you act. Suicide is the easy way out for you but you harm more then you hurt. I wish i could have Mike back but i cannot. he is gone.

Re: how do you deal with suicide?
this may sound a bit harsh so please take it with a grain of salt.....I have no pitty for anyone having succeeded, attempted or desiring to commit suicide. I find it very hard to be sympathetic when there are many other more positive options available.
I've dealt with depression, hell I'm on medication right now to control some of my mood swings so I'm not just making **** up.
What some people don't realize is that when you hit rock bottom that's good news. Because if you know you've hit rock bottom it means you can only improve, things can only go up from there. So now there is something to look forward to. The key is patience. I hit my rock bottom about a year ago.....I cracked up big time.....but I chose to get help, not to kill myself, and now I'm on cloud 9. Sure I currently take meds to help keep my head straight, but I have a newly wed wife who worships me, a stable job with all the benifits, a roof over my head and food on my table, etc, etc. When you take the time to count your blessings you can always find countless things to live for.
Encourage your friend to seek some councelling, or to ask their doctor about a non-habit forming medication. (I take Celexa and it has done wonders for me)
Best of luck

Re: how do you deal with suicide?
depression is a terrible thing, but its something people have to understand that EVERYONE has been there before. Like it was stated before, when everything goes wrong at once it's terrible...and you feel that's the only way out...but then you have to find something that comforts you, be it a pet, or in my case, video games:D school, girls, family, friends, work....they can all get you down, but don't let them. then they win.
