wax and polish

ok.. i got really confused after reading a few posts... and some questions... wax first or polish first?... how do u polish a car?.. is that just like waxing where u put on a coat and then rub it off in circular motion?.. also.. what type or brand of polish do u guys use?.. or which one is good?.. simoniz?.. turtlewax?.. meguairs?.. OK...and what is the difference between liquid wax and paste wax..?.. i did a search and it just confuses me more and more.. would like help.. thx..

generally if u want your car to feel silky smooth and be rid of swirls and scratches... do a 3 step process... the order is: first clay bar it, then polish it and then wax it.. that is what i did to my car and the results were very nice.. paint felt brand new and swirls were down to a minimum... meguiars wax is good

liquid wax is good, paste wax is harder to apply.. never used paste wax..

you always polish before wax. Wax isn't even needed, but it puts a coat of protective film over the paint that lasts 3-6 months usually.

3-step process is best. I use the liquid "paint cleaner" (step1) then the swirl remover (step2) then the last step is to wax.

Don't be lazy and only use the paint cleaner THEN wax, use all 3 steps. ONce you clean the paint, it becomes a LOT easier to rub the other stuff on so those steps are a lot easier and quicker

does this also apply to a freshly painted car? just got mine resprayed and now gotta clean it for the first time. what is my best bet?

I've had my car painted for over a year now and it still shines like it just came out of the bodyshop

True wax protects paint so it wont fade for a longer period of time. Polish takes out "micro" scratches, thus a nice shine. But if you dont follow up with wax your paint will just rescratch.

Zaine Brothers http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc sells a polish/wax product line used by lots of folks who show their rides. Not cheap but produces fantastic results. I spent around $70 USD for their 3 step stuff including the claybar. Have used it for a year now... applied full applications of each step twice in that year to 3 cars and just about time to reorder. Too expensive? If on a tighter budget, any reputable brand of polish and wax on sale will do from your local autoparts IMO.
