my possible rx7 purchase
i have a chance to buy a 79 rx7 15000 original miles been garaged for decades!! i drove and it drives like new its my friends mom and she wants to get rid of it so bad she wants 1800 usd should i do it?? opinions thoughts? dont worry i aint givin up the mx for it but just to have it as another car what u think>?<p>cody

I would buy it, personally more for collectors piece than a daily driver. Buy it for 1800 then either Ebay it or put it on autorader.com under the collectors section. The '79 came with manual choke, points ignition, thermal reactor exhaust and a few other quirky things you will never find on a modern car. Get the compression checked to make sure the apex seals arent sticking from sitting unused so long (you cant use a regular compression gauge. Actually you can but you have to remove the valve or hold it open). Keep it out of the snow if they use a lot of salt in your area, they rust easy. If you do use it for a daily driver, switch to a 1980 distributor (electronic), swap the thermal reactor and heat exchanger for a Racing Beat header and presilencer, and do frequent (2000 mile) oil changes and it will run forever.<p>[ August 04, 2003: Message edited by: guyaverage ]</p>
