HELP..only runnin on 3 CYL

Post by xlr8n »

OK guys, I need some help, My mx-3 is only running on 3 cylinders. the # 3 cylinder is not running. When i listened to the engine i noticed it was misfiring, then I started pulling the plug wires and when I pulled the #3 wire it made no difference in how the engine was running so....I did a compression test and cyl 1 is at 135 psi, # 2 is at 145 psi, #3 at 60 psi and #4 at 145. so...my question for all you car gurus...is there a common problem with the cylinders that may help me get to the problem quick.....whitout costing an arm and leg.....the engine is a 1.6L 4cyl, completely stock. I don't want to upgrade anything...yet!.....I want the engine running smoothly...I just bought the car a week ago and don't know how I missed this problem. The exhast is clean also. Anyways....any help is much appreciate..thanks!

take about a cap full of oil and put it in cyl#3 and do the compression check again. this will indicate or eliminate bad rings. if you put the oil in and the compression goes up, bad rings. doesn't go up, possible blown head gasket. also, check check the oil for coolant.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

This could also be a burnt, sticking, or cracked valve (which means pulling the head, having it redone, new head gasket, new timing belt, etc..). If you do your own work and just do the #3 you may get by with a few hundred, if you have someone do the work this i$nt going to be cheap...If you're lucky its nothing more than the head gasket. :crying:
