Battery problem

Post by GolfPro14 »

My car has been in storage since i am not aloud to have a car my freshman year in college. A couple weeks ago i went to take my car for a drive and it wouldnt start. The battery was dead and i figured it was normal the battery was very old, so i bought a new one. that was two weeks ago. when i came home for thanksgiving last weekend i went to start my car again, and the brand new batter was dead already. I do have a sub in the trunk that is still hooked up to the battery. Is it possible that the sub is what was draining my batter or do i have another problem? i would greatly appreciate some feed back.

It probably is the sub but you might also have a bad alternator... there are diodes in it that allow current to go out (charge the battery) but not in (discharging the battery). If they are bad then your battery is discharging thru the alternator.

If you have a multimeter you could hook it up between (in series with) your sub's power suppy and see if it is drawing current, if so then you have your culprit. If not you can remove one fuse at a time and check current flow between the contacts to see which circuit is drawing juice.
