my fan won't run

Post by mwmorris »

Hey I need help! My Mx-3 has two fans. The one on the driver's side turns on but the one on the passenger side doesn't. Lately my temp. gauge has been fluctuating like crazy and gets up almost to H. This happens when I'm going over like 60mph, and the gauge drops when I slow down. Help please!!! Thanks.

the passenger side fan is for the a/c. it has no effect on cooling.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

Thanks for the help so far. How do I figure out if it's the water pump or head gasket? And how hard is it to replace these things??

It could be the temperature sensor switch, the thermostat. If its the waterpump or head gasket u will be loosing coolant and will have thick white smoke if its the head gasket. Best bet is to have it tested by a mazda mechanic and use only mazda parts if u replace anything. I have had bad experience using a generic thermostat.

Well I replaced the thermostat with a generic one before I read your post. What kind of probs did you have with it? So far the temp. gauge is running right. Let me know about those problems though so I can be on the lookout. Thanks!

Sounds like your coolant is low, and if your fans aren' working you need to check the relay and check your voltages at the ECU.

man im not sure why your right fan isnt running, but i would do what they said and see if its all rusted up, but i can almost gaurentee your thermostat needs to be replaced, it should get hot when your going faster, and coll off when your going slower, it should be the opposite. good luck hope i could help
