changing th clutch

Post by Ryencool »

JUst trying to get an idea of what is involved with changing a clutch? just cause the labor is soooo expensive, I figure if i do it myself I can by a performance clutch. I jsut did the springs and struts on my car myself, firt time I really tried to install everyhting and they turned out fine. Anyone done this on hte mx, and how involved is it? I do have 3 jack stands that can get the car off the ground enough,,

I tried to change my clutch myself. Put in an act clutch.BAD mistake doing it myself. I had no clue what i was doing. My opinion is if you don't know what you're doing, pay somebody who does. Save yourself the headaches.

Ive changed three clutches in three different vehicles before and my mx-3 was the hardest. The other two were rear wheel drives...FWD is harder since you have so much crammed into a small space. Also, when i did my mx-3 i didnt have any extensinos or swivel joints. Those things make it way easier. Also, have air tools!! Those things are gods gifts to mechanics...You will also need a torque wrench to get proper torque ratings on your bolts. Plan to get really dirty!!

i had my cluth on my93 mx-3 done 3 weeks ago at pep boys, i had a cluth kit and slave cylinder installed, also had a new harness and the flywheel was fixed, now i have to push the clutch in far to switch gears, the mechanics at pep boys says this is normal for hydraulic clutches, they need time to raise up, is this true? if my clutch is messed up i will get a new one for free from them or have them fix this one for free.

Just make sure that when you change your clutch, you get the flywheel resurfaced. If you dont, say goodbye to your brand new clutch in no time. The flywheel should come back looking like a mirror.
