Q. 4 Kick @#$ Bolt on Turbo
To Kick @#$ Mazda or anyone who has done the Bolt on Turbo to their DOHC 4-cyl, how much HP do you have with the turbo? Is it really worth it?

Re: Q. 4 Kick @#$ Bolt on Turbo
That really hard to say because I never got a dyno done to begin with, but for I can say that I was pushing 115hp before the turbo with the minor intake mod, plugs wires, and such. Now when I floor it goes, just the other day I have a z28 behind me and I let it loose the guy in the z28 said he had to floor it just to keep up with me, so it was worth it for me. I will dyno it eventually when I am satisfied with the mods.

Now if you plan on doing the same setup that I have expect your horsepower to come in the low RPM's and for short gains (which is what we all want anyways), because that is all you get. On mine I push about 5PSI at 2500 and then 8PSI ant 3000 and it holds 8PSI from then on.

why only boost 8 psi? can the motor not take anymore or does the fuel system tap out?
- eddie -

Re: Q. 4 Kick @#$ Bolt on Turbo
he probobly just wants to keep it safe 8 psi is plenty and he dosen't have any real heavy fuel management like a stand alone so....It's better to be safe then sorry

Re: Q. 4 Kick @#$ Bolt on Turbo
I would only run 8 in a similar situation. If he was just interested in the performance gain and not all out maximum power its a good number and a good rpm range to spool up in to keep a good road performance level.

Re: Q. 4 Kick @#$ Bolt on Turbo
Your both right, according to most the posts here 8PSI is about the limit on the stock block and internals much more than that will require to beef up the internals. Plus once you see 8PSI of boost on this MX-3 that really is all you need for street driving. I do plan on trying to replace some of the internals with the 323 engine soon just so I know I am not pushing the engine to its threshold.

I would skip the B6T pistons as they will greatly increase lag. A good option, if possible, is the B6T rods with pistons from an automatic miata (9.0:1CR) - this is my new setup. Less boost, no lag, same power with less heat.

The rods would be from an 88-89 323GTX and the Pistons from a 93 Miata Automatic?
On this setup are you able to keep the MX-3 1.6 Head and intake as well right?
