ok... read my screen name...
as one of the few who have totaled their mx-3, i can assure you, you don't need to add anything for safety. i was in an accident with a full-sized ford taurus, the driver of the taurus hit me directly in the driver's side door going 85 miles an hour. the taurus then proceeded to flip overtop of the mx-3, and land on it's roof. i walked away with only some laserations on my chest (from the friction of the seat belt).
it is possible to get regular seatbelts installed on the car, however, it is a deduction on your insurance to have the automatic ones.

haha, more than alive... luckily it has a low center of balance so it didn't roll. thank god it's sporty, huh? yeah... the car is built pretty good. i don't know what th egoverment crash test ratings were on it, but i conducted my own, and i feel safer in the mx-3 than i do in any other car.

this car isnt unsafe. It has to meet certain safety requiermants just to be sold. And you want it to crumple because it absorbs alot of shock that otherwise would be transfered to you. The only thing I could think of that might help is getting some racing harnesses or something like that.

Our MX-3 was in a 4-car pile-up on the Interstate once... An Explorer pushed a Corolla into the back of me in our MX-3, and I was shoved into the back of a Neon. The Explorer was damaged pretty badly (crumple zones...), and the Corolla was totaled, with both the front and rear crumpled beyond belief. My MX-3 had about $300 damage to the rear bumper, and the clips on the front bumper broke-off. The neon I was pushed into had about $300 damage.
In short... The force of the impact was absorbed by the Corolla (front and rear), and I came away from the accident in great shape! Good thing I wasn't hit by the another MX-3 backing into me at high speed! :D
