VIBRATING steering wheel while stopped

Post by A.S. »

For the last few months, my 94 auto mx-3 has been very shaky while the car is in Drive and my foot is onthe brake (behind red lights, etc). The steering wheel starts to shake like crazy and the rpm fluctuates slowly. when I pop it into N, the vibration stops. Does anyone know what the problem is.

I am not really sure what causes this, but I had this problem with my wife's Chevy Corsica. I have heard of this issue many times, it always seems to involve an automatic. I am sure that the issue is somewhere in the transmission or a component needed for automatic transmission.

I have the same problem too. I was told it was the TPS sensor (Throttle Postion Sensor) It cost $250 from Autozone so Id hate to see how much it costs at Mazda.

I have a 92 auto. and i took it to the mazda dealer last month. the problem is actually a sign of old age.....the mechanic said it that it invloves the idle speed control valve...it gets corroded and eventually needs replaced.....so i just had my idle adjusted and had him clean the valve....to replace it would involve pulling the manifold......which costs anywhere from $200 to $300....it was a cheaper alternative and it still idles somewhat hard....but now i have no threat of stalling out....
hope this helps
heather :)

it was $70 to clean the valve, and reset the idle....he spent about an hour on my car to do this....(not too bad)....like i said, some days i do not notice that hard idle at all....occasionally i'll notice the tach dip down and up -and the car vibrates a little..but nothing compared to what it was.
heather
