I am just finishing up my swap. I have a little bit of wiring left to do and then put everything back together.
Problems I encountered:
1) Buy at least one can of Liquid Wrench! It will be your saviour, trust
me. It works great for bolts but also coolant and fuel lines that are
stuck.
2) Hub locknuts don't want to come off. If you do get the air tools you
won't have a problem. I just undid the suspension and pulled the axles from
the tranny. I just let them hang until I was ready to put the new motor in.
3) After removing the motor and transfering the flywheel and clutch to the
b6t, I bolted the tranny to the b6t. It doesn't fit as well as it should
but Derrick said not to worry. The 3 bottom bolts can't be used and there
will be a small gap on the bottom where the two don't meet flush. Don't
worry about it unless you are going to go puddle jumping further south : )
4) I didn't have to drill a hole for the oil return line. I guess that is
only on the v6.
5) Dropping the motor in is a little tricky. If your b6t comes with a
motor mount on the left side under the cam gears you will have to remove it.
This is the hardest part. Pull off the cover, cam gears, timing belt, inner
cover, and remove the bolts in front and behind the motor. The mount is
attached to the ps pump mounts as well as the alternator mounts. In the
front there is two bolts and one stud. I couldn't get the stud out so I
just used a dremel to cut it off. You have to cut in behind the mount in
order to slide it off. Once you have it off, swap it with the one from the
B6E.
6) I have measured up the cuts for the hood. I am not going to cut a hole
in it yet as Derrick said some years you do and others you don't. You do
have to cut the brace...wait till your motor is in.
That is all that I can think of for now. I am still trying to solve the
axle issue...it just isn't lining up properly.
Hope this helps,
Chris Malden
