Another clicking noise

Post by mx32nv »

This clicking noise is coming from the engine, it seems to be internal right under the valve cover. It is louder at idle but sometimes will just stop for no reason and then my car is quiet again. The clicking speeds up as I accelerate. A friend of mine mentioned that I should check into having my valve timing looked at. I have a 1.6L SOHC and 110K miles.
Any thoughts on what this could be?
Thanks
Troy
------------------
93 1.6L SOHC Teal

I have a '92 1.6L SOHC that makes the clicking noise at start-up and goes away as soon as the engine warms up to normal operating temp. I think it is just something to do with the choke or something. If it is doing it even after motor is warm and after a long trip you might have a problem with your valve train. Like a clogged lifter or something. At your next oil change you might try putting a cleaner in your crankcase before doing the change. I use B12 Chemtool myself to clean the motor. Just make sure you follow the directions on the can and DO NOT drive the car with the cleaner still in the system or you might damage the bearings. I would try that first since it is fairly simple and doesn't cost much. Hope this helps. Just my $.02 worth. Image

Is that the same thing as an engine flush? Because I've done that before so that would be something I feel comfortable doing myself. Unfortunatly I just changed my oil about 2 weeks ago but if this is what your talking about I'll give it a try.
Thanks
Troy
------------------
Troy
93 1.6L SOHC Teal

Yeah, that is what I am talking about. The engine somitimes builds up sludge over time and it may break loose and clog a lifter and cause an annoying ticking noise. I have always used B12 Chemtool because I know it works. I haven't used any other type of flush before so I can't give my opinion on those. I would try that first and if it's still there after the flush it might be mechanical failure like a flat cam lobe or bad lifter. Let's hope that the good cleaning fixes the problem and that it is not something serious. Good luck and Godspeed! Image Image Image
