what vaf will make my car run best? i have tried two types..

Post by Tfries-cc »

I have a 96 mx3 with a klze swapped into it, I have tried the stock vaf and the kl02 vaf and had no luck.

1.) the stock k8 vaf idles really good but had really inconsistent acceleration power at low rpms lol its so annoying

2.) I ran the kl02 vaf for 2 years and it has good power throughout the powerband, but it always idles bad/ stalls out and runs so bad sometimes I cant accelerate.. I race this car so this is no option lmaoo

I have been using the k8 vaf for now and its not good enough.. should I get the je50?

thanks for the help!

There is the problem. ODB2

You can search on this forum for topics on a KL in an ODB2 car.

Normally you'd run a KL05 ecu with KL02 VAF, or KL31/36 with JE50 VAF (some more combo's are there but these are most common).
Just another Mx3 freak :)

If I were you being OBD2 already I would look into a MAF swap. I'm working on a patch harness for mine at the moment as I'm OBD1. It's dyno proven hp also. Absolute best would be a MAF swap without a CEL. Here is a thread for some more info http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701296769

I swapped a ze into my 96 OBD2 MX-3 and with the stock ECU and a KL02 vaf it ran great. Another member here did his car at about the same time and said the KL02 did the trick for him as well. I suggest resetting your TPS and the cars idle screw (top of TB). When my idle screw was out an extra turn my car also ran like crap. Anyway stock ECU with KL02 vaf = :) Additionally I spent a lot of time to find the pn for the O2 sensors, you may want to replace them as well. I compared an old one with a new O2 sensor and found the response time of the new one was much quicker. http://mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=65706
