New GS owner.

Post by kudkudniyog »

Good Day Everyone,

I just purchased a 3rd MX-3. It is a 93GS manual. The 2 other MX-3’s we have are 4 cylinders. I am not too familiar with the V6 so I would like to ask the group a few questions.

1. Can I use an MX-6 or Probe V6 headers for the K8?
2. When doing a KL swap, does the K8 transmission bolt-up w/o any modifications?
3. Do I need a new ECU and wiring for the swap?
4. Are the intake manifolds on a K8 & KL engine interchangeable?
5. Any tips that might be helpful?

Thanks,
Alex

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes. Either the VAF from a probe/mx-6 with matching ECU, or the K8 VAF and the KL31/36 ECU
4. Yes, but you don't want to
5. There are swap guides in the V6 section that walk you through the installation. Very informative.

And... welcome.

^^ this is correct. You can also use the K8 flywheel with a mx6/probe clutch and pressure plate to save a few lbs or get the fidanza flywheel to shave even more off. BTW if you are looking for shortie headers I have 2 ebay sets FS. The swap is not bad to do, just time consuming like anything else. But 1 heck of a blast when done. I'd also consider the HEI mod and possibly the external coil as well :2thumbsup:

Best to open your own post asking that question for quickest reply while not stepping on this posters post. In the mean time, the K8 has smaller runners than the ZE/DE intake runners. Yes the KL uses Nikedenso runners while the K8 used Aesicsdenso runners. :D

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
