Clutch Replacement and Vacuume leak help

Post by BlackMX-3 »

Hello everyone,

I am new this community.

I have a mx-3 gs i bought a year ago and the clutch went out on it so its been sitting for quite a while. pristine body.

Does anyone have a guide or a site I can see what I need and how to drop the tranny and change the clutch?

Also, It has a vacuume leak where it is hunting for an idle between 1000 rpm and 3000 rpm constantly when it was running warmed up? any idea on what I should replace or what I should clean?

I want to get this running then at some point drop a jdm 2.5l in it. any help will be appreciated.

also, can you put a KLDE in with the stock 1.8l tranny or would I need to buy a new tranny?

Welcome to the forum Black!!
You will need access to a jack and some jack stands, air tools/tools and a dry area to work is always great.
Also, you will need an engine hoist to support engine when tranny is removed or put a jack underneath the engine for support.
I would suggest replacing along with clutch disc and pressure plate, the pilot bearing and release bearing which is usually included in a kit.
Also have your flywheel resurfaced by a reputable machine shop or local auto parts store.
Exedy makes a great oem replacement clutch that will also suit well for JDM 2.5 in the future.
Here is a link to the online manual where you will find some helpful info as to how to change the clutch. http://www.mx-3.com/manuals/index.php?f ... Manual/J2/
Has your hunting idle been diagnosed as a vacuum leak or is that a best guess sort of thing?
Stock 1.8L tranny is a direct fit for the 2.5L.

Thanks! I'm located in cincinnati ohio. I've seen a few bone stock mx-3's, but nothing too special. It has cold air intake and a newer exhaust on it that the guy before me threw on.

There's so many posts on what you just asked it's crazy. Use either our Search function or Google and within minutes you'll have tons of answers probably a lot faster than posting here. We can help you but it's nice to see people help themselves as well. Cheers

PS: I went into the MX-3 vault (Faq) for this so you can begin at or near the beginning. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=34783

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
