Garmin Nuvi

Post by mitmaks »

I was trying to install latest map on my garmin nuvi 1260 but had to delete file from it to install a new map file on it. Accidentally it got erased and I couldn't get new file installed cause it was too big. Now Im trying to reverse and install this original file on it but having problems. Computer doesn't recognize gps through usb cable anymore :?

try this fix:

1. Turn on the gps (unplugged)
2. Press on the battery display several seconds to get a diagnostic like page. (leave it like that).
3. Go to my garmin dashboard
4. Connect the usb cable.
5. Dashboard recognizes the device, and can update it.

Also if your model has the option to choose between USB modes, try to switch it to mass storage mode (msc)

you can also check your device manager and see if it detects anything is even plugged in or not.

I went to their support page (Garmin) and one of suggestions was to unplug it from USB hub (in front of computer) and plug it in the back. This has worked for me, it's recognizing GPS now. I was worried I'd have to send it in for repair.
