Cheap Rx-8s

Post by mitmaks »

I was wondering why Rx-8s are so cheap nowadays. Why are they losing value so fast?
Here's some local rx-8s reasonably cheap
04 with less than 40K miles for $9500

I was thinking maybe cause they're RWD and they're not so practical here in Spokane with out winters.

I saw one in Calgary, in somewhat rough shape, for $3000, because Mazda told the owner he needed a $3000 cat replacement, and he didn't want to spend coin. It sold FAST.

ppl sell them so cheap b/c they dont know how to treat a rotary and ruin them, let alone run into problems and want out from them due to frustration. We had 2 last week at work just because ppl didnt let them shut down properly and flooded out so they had to be primed.

yeah people who buy them love the look just dont realize a rotor is a waaaaayyy different type of animal than a piston engine. There are ALOT for sale down here in cali as well. Its a little bit sad but i see them becoming a pretty rare car like most other mazdas (except the mazda3 and 6)

GM swap, "2 door" family car with reliable power and decent weight distribution.

Best part? They can be had in rolling condition with zero rust for 1/2 the price of a clean FD.

My 8 just crossed 70k kms on her and I suspect she needs a cat. Rear 02 is registering a code for slow response and my low end is lacking. I'd rather put in a $500 BHR midpipe, but I had a friend tell me he found a cat through Napa for $500 as well, but it's rather go catless ;) I'm trying to wait until spring (car gets put away for the winter) because I don't want to spend the cash on that this year, the car getting 2 new rear tires this week and the truck has gotten much needed TLC and some upgrades at the same time this year

Get a cat off of ebay. 100 bucks. you have to weld it in but hey. I ran catless with no code in mine. I sold my 8 2 years ago now with 126K on it for 3400 dollars. It has MS coilovers, swaybars and tons of extras. I had it listed for 6 months. Mine needed an engine. That is complete BS if the dealer is saying 3K for a cat. I had mine replaced for free under warranty as the cat was covered to 100K miles. The only reason I sold mine was I did not have 3K at the time to put a refurbed engine in it. Otherwise I would still have it. over 5K for a new one, 2800 for a refurb and that is from Mazda with the level 5 discount. The reason they are so cheap is the engines will go out and they are high maintenance.

I was going to drop in an FE motor bout could not locate the one I wanted. They are hard to find.

I dont even have to see this listing to know the car.. This was my front bumper, hood, rear bumper and Knight Sports rear lip. This was a buddy's car, great runner. I installed air bags on it for him. He sold it to a local dealer for 14K... he had offered it to me for 9K but I just could not see myself getting into another one. too many mixed feelings over my last one.
