Aftermarket fog lights

Post by mitmaks »

What are you guys running for aftermarket fog lights? Up where I live there's usually really dense fog in spring/fall.
I've installed some cheap ones $30 that I had laying around but they don't make difference lol.
I was thinking investing into some PIAA fogs, what are your thoughts?

It's always surprised me the amount of people with MS bumpers who just leave empty holes in where there should be fog lights. Looks goofy having empty holes in the front bumper....

The JDM ones yes, the MS bumper actually doesn't look like it's missing something without the fogs. Ya in North America we're missing the mounting points, but a couple of L brackets was an easy fix

I was never a fan of fog lights. They never served a purpose for me so i wouldnt even use em. I ended up getting J-spec head lamps for my MX6 and made the fog light a blinker like the Japan MX6´s

Oddly enough i never notice people running the MS front with or with out for lights. Before i joined the forums and didnt know any better i thought they were brake cooling holes or something performance oriented.

Ill more than likely never get fogs for my 3. I am planning on putting a oil cooler in the passenger side hole and the driver side fender hole will be enlarged so the fender intake can breathe more thanks to the MS bumper :)

one thing that really grinds my gears though is when people drive with only fog lights on or have them on when its not foggy or even a hint of bad weather....very odd to me.....

rear fogs do come in handy though. It gets foggy ALL the time in germany, so bad u cant even see 3 feet in front of you but every car is equipped with rear fogs there so it prevents TONS of accidents

Lol, look at the Mx-3.com logo's car, it's an A-Spec with fogs ;) Not any people run fogs in their MS bumper, usually a question of mounting since I believe you need the j-spec rebar. I've posted pics in the past, but what I used what just some flat stock to make some Z-brackets, and some bolts laying around.

Of course we know that the Mx-3 headlighs don't work the greatest, but even in non-fog conditions, I found they really improved lighting at night, especially those rainy night where it seems that your headlights are doing nothing. It's like they fill the gap between the front bumper and where the headlights start to light up the road farther ahead, especially when you have on your highbeams, you don't lose your close-lighting ability. OEM foglights typically turn off with highbeams (I haven't bypassed that yet on the Xterra), so when you wire in your own, you can wire them however you want. I love using them in the snow, their lower height help show the texture of the snow on the roads.

I wired a type of rear fog on the Mx-3 (overseas they only have the outter lights are brakes, the inner drivers side being the fog, and the inner passenger not used). I just triggered the brake light on the inner drives side (easy relay wiring) which didn't affect it's regular brake function when the fog wasn't on. Wish I had the gen2 Rx8 tails, I'd do the same thing.

I really noticed the use of a rear fog in a rain with heavy highway mist, where I could see the fog light on a Volvo farther ahead than the tails of the cars in front of me. Any type of low-visibility driving conditions, they work great. Euro cars typically have it turn on with the front fog lights, so pay attention to them in poor conditions, you'll see it, and see how well it actually does work. I wish I could do one on the X and Rx...

    is it JUST noticed the car up top has fog lights is that sad?

yeah the Gen to head lights and tails are really sweet on the RX8. Too bad it was only a two year thing then it was discontinued.

I never had the pleasure of using stock head lights on the MX3 so thats where my opinion comes from. I only drove home when we bought the car and to work in the wee morning a couple of times and thought they were terrible. I only got the projectors cause i liked the look.

but lighting was improved 10 fold over the stock lights. Im sure if I still had the originals then I would have got a fog light set up. More than likely a custom one like you had made
