1994 mx3 1.6l 5-speed low-no heat

Post by pdoan_98 »

I replaced the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. When the car idles I can get the temp gauge to go up and I get heat. When I drive, the temp gague drops below the "C" and I lose my heat. I have checked the fluid in both the radiator (which was low and I bled the air bubbles out, I think) and the fluid in the resovoir tank. I have added fluid to both when needed. Any ideas??

Do I keep adding fluid in the system? How will I know if and when the air has vacated the system?

Air in the system would cause it to overheat, air is less efficient for cooling that water ;)

It sounds like it's being overcooled, especially when rolling, your pushing air across the rad. I'm still going to suspect the thermostat, either defective or stuck open for a reason or another. Don't get the "fail-safe" thermostats, they're known to be unreliable.

Would a bad rad cap be a possibility?

What temp range should the stat be rated for?
