V6 GS replace with a 4 cylinder

Post by tet493 »

Hello, I am looking into swapping out my K8 V6 engine for a 4 cylinder. Does the ECU from my GS work with any of the 4 cylinder engines. Will the stock GS motor mounts work with any of the 4 cylinder MX3 engines? I am looking to do this swap because I need a new engine. I already know about the KLDE/KLZE swaps but that is out of the question. Thank You!

ew, why would you do that? but no you have to do major fabrication to make the engine fit. Just put another K8 in it....

Buddy, you need to do some real research, you're asking questions that shouldn't of been asked...

No a V6 ECU doesn't work on a 4cyl, it works on a V6 only.
No the V6 motor mounts don't work on the 4cyl, they're designed for the V6 motor

Why is a new V6 (K8 or KL) out of the question? You want to spend more money and give yourself more work?

Not at all, it's all bolt in, the Mx-3 was designed to handle both of course, you just basically need a 4cyl doner car and swap everthing in the engine bay. It's all bolt in, just requires many bolts.

Putting anything into anything else is possible if you want it in there badly enough.

I suspect he has a blown K8 and no money but has a useable 4cyl engine that he could replace it with for nothing and that is why he's asking.

The issue is that just having the engine is not enough. You need the engine, a compatible transmission, axels, engine harness, ECU, motor mounts...it goes on. It's not simple to change a GS to an RS or vice versa. You really need a complete donor car. Now if you have a complete RS and want to move everything into your GS that's doable but a lot of work.
94' RS/GS/MS/CF Monster Turbo...coming soon.
93' GS SE, the Black Beast, the former love of my life...soon to be gutted and crushed.
94' GS, black on black, now in several small pieces...and one large crushed piece.

It's been possible for way too long. A long time ago a guy from Quebec called Dave Lauzier had a GS and put a BP in it, were talking pre-2001 here...He was making 480whp, and was low 11-'s with a full interior and A/C

Indeed, but given the other parts needed, it could cost more

Thanks guys, my engine might be blown and I have a 4 banger the will pretty much be free. I will just save up for the KLDE/KLZE instead thought.
