OK so I apply power (12v) to terminal B and then S (BS lol) anyway the starter engages but won't turn over the engine. I can turn the engine over easily with a big screw driver moving the fly wheel so motors not seized or tight. What piece of this puzzle am I missing? I did swap out the starter for another one that worked just in case the original was weak. Thanks

Check your grounds. I had this exact issue two weeks ago after reinstalling my engine. My grounds were not secure and power was not getting back to the battery.

IIRC I just
-put the negative of jump lead from battery to gearbox mount studs
-put the positive to the B terminal of the starter
-then short across from B to the top terminal with a screwdriver shaft

Ok I really don't want to admit this but I found the problem. The engine would move by hand almost one full revolution then stop. It would then move back the same distance then stop. I inspected the cylinders and low and behold ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, a stone sitting there all pretty like. I guess my young daughter thought the engine needed that. Glad I didn't push the issue as so far no damage. Now to jury rig a vac hose to such that baby out and get on with the compression test. Kids????

Well spotted though, I hear they don't compress well! Bit of vaseline on something long and thin if its a small one should work.

I just spent 2.5 hrs making sure the cyl is good but in the end I can't trust that there's not something else in there or a tiny pebble is between the piston and the cyl walls so tearing the engine down is probably my next step.

Oh, boy, or I should say, girl. What if you were to get a nozzle down in there, like one of those 1/4 inch pipes, and blow it out with as much PSI as your compressor can handle? Of course, if you have it out of the car, and tear it down, you can rebuild it better than factory specs (like milling the cam caps for better oil pressure).

I had a wine hose on the end of a vac and then I kinda stirred a large tie wrap around to see if any thing was hiding on the cyl peripheral.
