well hello again everyone. im back on the board, almost gave up on my mx3 cause of economics, but things have changed and i can still have it.
it's no longer for sale, and its almost ready to get back on the road.
I recently found out about a new event on my country. Its track-day's going that extra step and turning them into something more that ego-trips.
The event is called the Portuguese Time Attack Championship ( CPTA ) and it features a bunch of classes, ranging from the daily driven 1300cc car, to the Pro series sponsored by local carshop's.
Well, the KL engine just makes my entry too hardcore .. it moves the MX3 to the NA 3000cc class, and that´s too hard.
The K8 on the other hand, has it's hand full with the Honda 1800cc crew ...
I started this topic, just to show you guys the event, and to take some advice into making the K8 more track-agressive and especially the MX3 into a better track car all-around ( power is nothing without control )

well, this is starting to look like a monologue, but i dont care.
I realized i need to have a base line to start with, so i decided to do something:
I'm going to try Estoril track in my first try at CPTA with the car as it is, just removing all the extra weight:

It will go as follows -
15" rims with 205/55 R15 street tires
Lesjefors lowering springs
K8 with 160 000 km
straight tube ( 2" ) exhaust from the manifold to the back without final exhaust
CAI
regular OEM sparkplugs
K1 10mm sparkplug wires

and the best performance modification .... all interior removed, except the driver seat , headliner and dash.
"btw" : is the A/C removal too hard to do at home ? i really dont use it, and especially will never use it down on the track ... its a weight thing i guess, it must be heavy with the radiator and all

this way i can have a base time to see if any mod. made can improve my time. Engine mod's + driver skills upgrade will probably result in constant time reduced

Not hard to remove. Just need a different belt because the compressor doesn't need to be driven.

What are your class rules and limitations?? What about tire compounds? brands? sizes? limitations on that?

kinda hard to give any advice with out knowing the rules..

Yes I agree, surely there must be an online rule book or something? For SCCA in the states there are ALL kinds of rules and many many different classes. For some you cannot remove any interior or do any engine work or suspension work and in others you can basically do anything you want. If you are keeping the K8 then I would start with the lowest possible class to see what the limits are. I'm guessing you can't just start removing stuff unless the classes are really that flexible.

ok, let me start to try and translate the rules :

First the classes :
Naturally Aspirated Gasoline Engines
Class 1 - from 595cc to 1400cc
Class 2 - from 1401cc to 1700cc
Class 3 - from 1701cc to 1900cc ( K8 class ... and Integras, B18 and that lot )
Class 4 - starting at 1901cc without limit AND 4WD cars
Then there are Diesel N/A cars, Boosted gas cars, Boosted diesel cars and the Superpro series with prototypes, Caterhams, and general race cars.

Then the rules... off course there are all the safety rules, but regarding the actual cars they are as follows:
The cars must have been sold by a major car company.
Any engine change must be looked at by the comity , and enter it's CC class.
All engines must come from a car, no bike engines and other sort's.
If the car was sold as a FWD , it cannot join as a RWD or 4WD. Rule for all transmissions
No NOS allowed
Slick tires not allowed, and Semi-Slick's like the R888 and similar's are still not allowed, but that can be changed in the near future.

Special Security rules:
cars must have windshield ( mandatory )
2kg fire extinguisher ( recommended )
Engine and electrical cutoff button easily seen ( recommended )
Tow rings in plain sight ( mandatory )
3 point seat-belt ( mandatory )
Mandatory 2 side-mirrors and rear view mirror ( except the cars with rear engine and exposed Firewall )
All wheelnuts ( mandatory )
and a few other stuff like working suspension and details. Interior can be removed .
Must have a final exhaust in all classes except Superpro
Octane boosters allowed
Original dashboard must be in working order, except for the Roll-Cage modifications

we can have sponsors, and stickers. but the championship has their own stickers that ALL cars must wear.

well it sounds like you can basically do whatever you want then! I think your list is a good start. You have the K8ZE right? That will help a bit. If you can afford coilovers get those instead of the lowering springs. You may want to also add brake pads to your list and SS lines if you do not already have those (maybe later, see how they do in the first events).

No it is not hard to do, just make sure you get the new smaller belt before you start. You should be able to get one for a non-a/c mx-3.

the list i posted is as the car rolls everyday. It will be my baseline "stock".
That way, everytime i buy something new for the car added to more track experience should make the car go faster and faster round Estoril track
