The whole 'changing intake/exhaust makes motor run lean" issue only exists in carbureted engines. fuel injection and oxygen sensors will never allow dangerously lean condition.

I had a cai (cold air intake) and did have a more aggressive sound upon take off, with a little power gain.

As of right now I have a stock air intake assembly with a k&n installed. The aggressive sound has lessened a little bit but the power is about the same. However I did notice that when I filled up I was getting about 30 mpg more.

IMO I like the k&n more as it still keeps the car looking stock. After all I do have a b6 ( ) and its not really something that I want to pop the hood on and be like "check out my intake yo"

When you say "stock air intake assembly", do you mean the original that is under the hood? The only thing modified was the K&N filter to replace the stock filter.

i want to thank everybody for their comments. I did a tune-up today, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv, and air filter. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope the low idle goes away. i did check the intake hose and it appears that might be next item to replace.

If you notice that uve figured out the issue and that your idle doesnt drop anymore. can you let me know please. because i have the same issue. ill rev about 800rpms all day long then once i start driving and come to a stop itll drop to about 200-250rpms.

@cws306 - i changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and air filter. I also put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the gas. After my tune-up, i put a tank of middle grade gas in the tank. I am keeping my fingers crossed these little things will fix the low idle problem.

The next step will be to repair the intake hose. Refer to my later post on "cold air intake." It looks like i can use electrical tape or silicon to seal the dry rot tube. I have not called the dealer yet to see how much to replace the tube.
