94 mazda mx3 5-speed idle air sensor

Post by pdoan_98 »

All,

It appears my car idles real low when I am at a stop. I was told to check the idle air sensor. Can somebody tell me in "poor man" terms where this is located. I'm not very mechanically inclined.

Thanks for the help.

Can we have a little more info, what engine you have and what rpm is it idling at and does it stay at that idle after you stop or just when you first stop. Cheers

Sorry for the lack of info.

I have a 1.6 cylinder. IT usually is idling real close to the 0 on rpm gauge. When I start, it somtimes has a slow rpm increase and then all of a sudden it will surge and pick up speed.

I had for about 3 years. I put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the other day. I am going to do a tune-up this weeked.

No such thing exists by those exact words. We have an idle air control, but no sensor.

First thing to do is check the intake tube that looks like an accordion for cracks, that is the #1 cause for issues like yours.

Thanks for help. I'll check into that....Is that something that is easily replaced and pretty inexpensive?

This might sound like a dumb question...Where is the intake tube located? I'm not a car guy.

THanks for the help.

You only refer to the pipe?
Cold air intakes filters works better on turbo applications. In atmospheric engines like b6de it would probably do more bad than good..Except from better noise.

:2thumbsup: for Deadmaker.

first of all, excellent picture of exactly what I mean.

Also, he's right, but no one likes to talk about it. B series intakes are actually of excellent design(although it doesn't seem that way based on intuition). Had an engineering friend actually legit discover that the best intake setup he could make was the stock one, with the bottom of the airbox cut out.

I do it for noise and shinyness...

So we should take the chance and cut it out? :D
But in this case isn't there a chance the fuel air ratio to become more lean?
What about changing the oem filter and putting k&N?
