quick transmission question

Post by windofire »

hey ppl.

im looking to buy a clutch for my first swap (it's a ZE), but wich one should i choose.
if i'm looking at ebay i can only find oem and exedy stage 1 for the 2.0 tranny.
i've read here somewhere, a guy that says his exedy oem holds up fine should i go for that one or?
and is the mx6 2.0 tranny the same as the 2.5?
(parts numers at exedy.co.uk is the same)

the enginge is basicly going to be mounted with:
CAI, Header/mainfold, 2.5" pipes and a chipped kl31/36 ecu.

and does anyone know the gear ratios of a 323f 2.0v6 tranny?
(to help me consider, using mx3 or 323f tranny).

Its not the same as the 2.0. Exedy part number 07095 is for the 2.5.

Ohh, we're talking about different 2.0's.

The 2.0 you mean is the KF (v6) from the Lantis, the one I mean is the FEDE (4 cyl) from the probe/mx-6/98ish protege.

Yes, its the same as the KF 2.0 one.

so the 323f is a lantis in the US?

do you know if a 2.5 v6 exedy oem is allright for the ze?
as far as i know the torque difference between the DE and ZE isn't that much.

we don't have a 323f or a lantis... but they use the same engine, no?

Most people agree the exedy OEM is fine. I am using it, its fine for me.

oh. okay didn't knew that, that car isn't in the US.

the 323F comes with a kf engine. the dude i bought the motor from had it in his 323f.
it's nice to hear that oem will hold up fine. the stage 1's seams pretty expensive over here. ;)

do you know anything about the gear ratio?
is it the same as the kl, k8 or is there a different one for kf's?

I don't know, I have no way to find that info except the internet.

If you went to a Mazda dealership and asked very nicely to see the shop manual for the car, they might let you, and in there is the gear ratios.

But explain to them first WHY you want to see, they don't like letting people look... they'd rather fix your car then have you learn to do it yourself.

A lot of people seem to be using the Exedy and love it

For the gear ratio, seems that the 323 KF uses a 4.39:1 like the Mx-3:
http://www.carinf.com/en/97a049127.html

Would make sence that the K8 uses a 4.39, the KL's use both the 4.39 and 4.11, so the 2.0 my guess would use a 4.39

If you want to check if, you can find out the code of the trans that's in your car, here's a good site for information for you:

Thanks alot for the answers they were really helpfull..! :)

would you change for the kf tranny if my k8 tranny makes a grinding noise, when shifting from 1st to 2nd? it only does it once or twice, and only when the engine is cold and it just sounds like the gears hit each other/or that they aren't lined up right. i've never had problems where i couldn't shift to 2nd.

another (maybe non-related to this forum) question is how about the engine mounts?
if i buy some new oem will they hold up fine then?

It doesn't matter if the engine is warmed up, there's nothing that really heats up the trans except from the friction of it being driven, heat transfer is really slow to the trans from the motor. Even if I remote start my truck for 30minutes, the trans will still shift like molasses until it itself warms up on extremely cold days. I would recommend: 1) take it easy when shifting when it's cold out, let the syncros do the work and let it go in naturally. 2) Check your trans oil level 3) try using a better trans oil 4) could be clutch slave or clutch like, but would happen on a regular basis if they were.

I had the same issue years ago in my Toyota and thought the syncros were going. I sold the truck and the guy who bought it put a lighter oil in the trans and drove the vehicle for like 10 more years problem free.
