After fuel went over,engine problems
After fuel went over,engine problems
Hello, I need your help alot, because everything went bad, heres the story:
I was driving mx3 1.6 sohc with small amount of fuel (now I think I was stupid enought) and then it went over, the car engine stops. I came back with my other car and I pour more fuel ~10 liters. After that i start engine, everything seems good but after few minutes the engine goes off like that time when fuel went off. And now all the time the same. Tried changing fuel pump and reset ecu but nothing. What else can be? Thanks and sorry for bad english, hope you guys understand me.

Replace your fuel filter. It's clogged.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
Fuel filter is a good place to start. If you did the pump, you looked at the screen. Was the screen still there? I've heard if it falls off you'll have running problems...
Try putting in more fuel too, maybe its having difficulty picking it up.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
I will try change the filter. About witch screen youre talking about? Do you mean the filter witch comes with fuel pump? Yes its still there I even try cleaning it, but also new pump comes with new filter so the problem not with it.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
He's talking about the screen that attaches to the fuel pump. I assumed you replaced it with the pump. If you didn't, now would be a good time.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
I changed the fuel filter, but now it even doesnt start
When I try to start the engine I only hear the fuel pump sound but the starter doesnt work. I checked the cables everything seems fine, no cables around fuel filter so what can I maked wrong?

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
Make sure the wires are making good contact at the battery. Are the connectors on the battery terminals loose? And it's 'which' not 'witch'. Scary stuff.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
If the battery cables are ok, and assuming the battery is fully charged (that's the first thing you should check), check all your fuses, especially the main fuse.
If the fuses are ok, report back, but we'll need more info:

- Is the battery fully charged?
Is your dashboard lighting up, when you move your key to "ON"?
Is the starter motor doing anything at all?

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
The starter doesnt make any sound at all. When it happened it was verry strange, I thinked that battery was died, then tried another one fully charged but result was the same. Yes the lights comes on like always when I turn the Ignition ON. I checked the fuses, I think it was okay but I will recheck tomorrow. When I try to start the motor I only can hear the fuel pump sound. Maybe I accidently disconnect some wires or etc.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
The fuel pump noise is very faint, almost impossible to hear, that will sound for a few seconds when you turn the key, and then stop. Is that what you hear, or is it a fairly loud whirring noise, that happens when you move the key from "ON" to "START", and then stops when you release the key?
If you get the whirring noise, that's your starter spinning, but your starter solenoid is not working. In that case, take off your starter, and get it tested (most auto part stores will test it for free). If the solenoid is defective, you can either get a new starter, or rebuild that one, if you know how to do it. If the starter is OK, check your grounds.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
Inodoro, the pump does not run when you turn the key on.
It does not.
A lot of other cars do, MX-3's do not.
I will stick a voltmeter in my pump and turn they key to prove it to you if I have to, but I hope I don't have to.
The pump only runs when the motor is cranking (NE1 signal)

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
I used to argue exactly the same thing, until I was SHOWN, in my '94 RS, that it does.
But no, if you mean the pump running continuously before the engine is moving, it does not. That's precisely what I said in my last post: the pump only runs for a second or 2, when you turn the key, to pressurize the fuel circuit, and then stops. No street car has the fuel pump running continuously with the engine off.

Re: After fuel went over, engine problems
Let the car rest for a few hours (or depressurize the fuel circuit), take the rear seat off, and turn the key to "ON" when there's no ambient noise. You'll hear it.
