Just use a regular breaker bar and the starter motor. The crank alignment mark is right against the block, its a notch in the gear... How'd you get the timing covers off, and the new timing belt on without removing the gear?

The crank gear mark correlates to cylinder 1 TDC, not the whole engine.

Both heads have marks on the heads themselves, the rear head has two additional marks on the valvecover.

Just like this picture I linked you to: http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=53392

How can you say they are on correctly if you're still asking these questions? I'm now going to guarantee you that your issue is that you didn't set the timing belt correctly.

Ok i ended up getting piston one at top dead centre useing a screwdriver down the plug hole and turning moter slowly set the cams up to marks following the links you gave me, sounded alot better when turning over but did not kick so i dc'd the injectors in case it was flooded from turning over so much and she started pluged the injectors back and in everything fine except now the power steering is not working, after turning the car off and trying to start same thing just cranks over and won't kick unless i dc the injectors start it and plug back in lol drama's but getting there. Cheers for all the advice could not of gotten this far without it.

you NEED to remove that crank pulley. You might still have it out a few teeth. If you don't set the tensions correctly, you'll be out when it tensions.
