Over Heating Issue
Hey everyone, how goes it? awesomeeee! anyways i was doin some research and i just cannot find anything to help me trouble shoot my over heating problem.. when i over heat i have to be sitting for about 15ish minutes with the car running for it to start to over heat.
but if i drive or move what so ever it wont do it.. what is my problem? anything and everything helps. just need a hand on where to start looking. thanks!

Have you checked if the cooling fan is working?Do you have enough coolant?
Another possibility is that you might have air in the lines so the coolant can not flow..
Check also the water pump..

what is overheating?
my temp gauge is at 3/4 or more before my fan comes on.
If you unplug the green/black coolant sensors your fan should come on. Thats a simple enough check.

yah my fan comes on and everything. im a 94 only got the 1 green plug and yes im pretty sure i got enough coolant. i filled the motor then the overflow to just below Full. and yah mine sits at 3/4 usually but i mean over heat like it hits the top line and i either gotta shut it off or get my a-- movin. but if i catch it going up and turn on the heat full blast it starts to go down a bit but not much.

Yeah, if you fuel milage and idle is okay, then your fan isn't coming on.
Just to make sure, go outside, start your car, open the hood, and pull off the green coolant sensor connector, the fan should come on instantly.
IF not... start troubleshooting. See if the fan gets 12V when the green sensor is unplugged... yes, its the fan, no, try the relay.

I am not very sure on the v6, but on 4 cylinder BP engines if the ignition timing is retarded to much the engine will overheat, and if the fuel pressure regulator gets stuck on very high psi. On my engine long time ago the factory fuel regulator got stuck at 75 psi, the engine overheated very quick. Thankfully I was nearby a junkyard and had a rachet with a 10mm (on my to go tool kit). Paid 2 bucks at the jy, 5 bucks for the regulator, swapped it, fuel readings back to normal and no more overheating.

ahhh no my idle does like to piss around sometimes.. it sits at a steady 950 for a while then itll drop to a steady 650ish. goes back and forth. no vacuum leaks its all new hose. but ill check that fan. could be. ill get back to you on it.

i feel like a total complete blonde right now. dont even wanna say it. but i forgot to plug the fan in... LOOOL!!! i did a rad flush and forgot to plug it in. whoops! all fixed and running nicely now.. accept it likes to hunt for an idle between 650-950

Idle surging when not related to vacuum is caused by air in the cooling system. The coolant temp sensor sends an erratic signal to the ECU because it is in and out of coolant = surging idle.
