Ryan got to go racing again :D

Post by Ryan »

Went up for my 2nd 'schools' class today. It was more just a free-for-all good time. Went out for 7 sessions, 1+4+1 laps a peice.

Gimli Motorsports Park is a 2.2km track, 9 turn, rough a-- track.

Image

Over 30-35 laps I brought my times down from 1:29 to 1:15.4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HsiVu5Qz3Y

Best time in the video was 1:16.3

The civic SI infront of me was doing 16's.

There was a 94 mustang GT with a respectable modlist that I stayed 4 seconds behind.

That corvette is insane, he owned the entire day with 1:06 times. Lapped me on the 4th lap on my first time out.

Hit up to 170kph on the straight (redline in 4th)

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a monopod and a tripod. Install the tripod head (which is adjustable), to the monopod. Place it between the passenger seat and the e-brake, get some bungee cords to secure to the seat.

Mount your camera to the monopod (tripod head) and ready to roll. Much cheaper than a GoPro, and works very well. Thats how I got my setup and works like a charm.

I've done my own mounts 2 ways.

Back with my uncles minidv camera, I used a tripod, put a leg behind each seat, one shortened and put on the back seat, and strapped down with bungees to the front belt rails and the rear seatbelts.

What I do now is that I used my cannon sd1600 camera and an old gps mount. Drilled a hole and use a bolt to the tripod mount on the camera and sick it to the wildshield. On the truck I can do it right side up but its too sloped on the 8 that I have to I put the camera upside down and just flip it with movie maker after, but it works great.

Looks like a blast! :D

It'll be nice to take my '93 out next year... If I'm lucky. I doubt my '92 will see a track of any sort until 2013.
