no spark code 1
Great...started car this morning, it ran fine idling for 6 or so minutes then died. Wouldnt restart. Let it sit most of the day and checked again. Still no start, turns over but barely...
Pulled plug...no spark. Pulled code 1... ignition pulse???? There is power going to disty but not coming out. Could that be ignition coil be gone...or whole disty?
Anyone got a disty for a 93 6 cyl 1.8ltr?
Thanks
Haley

Re: no spark code 1
Hmmm...for what I can tell, one long pulse means you don't have any codes stored. Was your CEL on?

Re: no spark code 1
One long flash is probably 10 as 10s digits flash the CEL on for 1.2-sec while 1s digits flash the CEL for 0.4-sec. I have a Disty but you probably don't need one. Check the plug.
Edit; opps 10 is Intake air temperature sensor (IAT)

Re: no spark code 1
Right, 10 not one. Makes more sense. But would that cause no spark? That part i dont get. I will check the plug for vaf and pray.
Re: no spark code 1
Check my EDIT, I was wrong about code 10 and corrected it.

Re: no spark code 1
Hmmm...no. 10 is displayed as 10 short blinks. Either way, the IAT would not affect the spark.
I agree with Dan. Check your plugs first, then your wires, and rotor.
Now, I know you stated before that you want to keep your engine, and, if you read my prior posts, you'll see I don't share the "KL-ZE or death" philosophy, but, considering all the trouble your engine has already given you, if now your disty is busted, I would recommend you to swap it, if not for a ZE, at least for a KL-DE. You will have a little more power, but, most importantly, you will have access to a lot more (and many times, cheaper) spare parts for it.

Re: no spark code 1
So I checked my plug...it was good and tight. Bummer, was really hoping for the easy solution. oh well.
Is there a way to test the ignition coil inside the disty, the rotor does turn when I crank the engine....just a side note.
What sucks is that I dont get paid til friday so my car sits for the rest of the week til I can get another disty or coil...whatever it needs. Might just go for a whole disty just to cover the bases.
I would consider getting another engine if I though it would solve all my problems but the reality is:
a) I can barely afford a used disty so a whole engine is not an option and
b) this is just my luck with vehicles....I dont think a new motor will change that and
c:) My engine hasnt really caused any issues...its all the outer aspects, sensors mostly, dirty throttle body and iac, shifter bushings and now a disty probably. The engine itself seems ok.

Re: no spark code 1
I agree of course about the IAT not effecting spark but Inodoro I don't think there is a code one and long flashes are 10's right?????Inodoro Pereyra wrote:Hmmm...no. 10 is displayed as 10 short blinks. Either way, the IAT would not affect the spark.

Re: no spark code 1
Ok. If it's not the rotor, I doubt it's gonna be the plugs or wires. You won't have all 6 plugs (or wires) going bad at the same time.
At this point, I'd say there's a strong chance either your coil or ignition module are busted. Either way, it doesn't matter, as they're all part of the disty. If you look in the FAQ's, there's a thread on how to do the HEI conversion for these engines. The stock ignition is kinda crappy, so maybe this would be a good time for you to think about it.
Finally, I'd recommend you to open a WTB thread for the disty. I'm sure there's plenty of members with spare K8 disties...

Yes, you're right. But one long flash means no code. Believe me, I had the IAT code in my Protege, it's 10 short flashes.Daninski wrote: I agree of course about the IAT not effecting spark but Inodoro I don't think there is a code one and long flashes are 10's right?????

Re: no spark code 1
I would love to do the HEI mod but after looking through the details and instructions I think thats a little beyond my capabilities. I suck with electrical stuff. Freaks me out and never turns out good for me.
So I think I'll just get another disty and take my chances for now.
I found a disty for $50. on kijiji so thats not so bad. Has anyone ever heard of jdmengineland.com? They seem to have a ton of stuff for these cars.

You want the T0T57072 it's a newer model than the TOT57071. Why not post [WTB] here, most of us have spares.
Thanks Inodoro

Re: no spark code 1
I would post here and get one from someone here but I really need to get this NOW. This is my to and from work vehicle, I dont have another one.
By the time payment went through and I waited for the part to be shipped to me, it'd be more than a week.
I can get this one tonight.
