92 Mx-3 GS

Post by Lateralus »

Just got my car after buying a few weeks ago (posted in the introduction forum)

Needs some work before i can get it inspected, runs nice and smooth though.

My main focus right now is going to be:

New brake pads, rotors, (possibly lines)
Tires
Wipers
Door Weather stripping
Front bumper, tow truck damaged it a few years ago i was told. Probably just try to fill in the holes and repaint.
And a paint job, clear coat is peeling everywhere
A few rust fixes on the rear fenders.
Tail lights, head lights.
Possibly lower it

And if it stays reliable I'll consider the klze swap

I'll post more pics within the next few days, btw i got this for $300 (if i didn't take it the guy was going to put it on craigslist for $800) Going to be a fun DD and project car.

I'm in Pennsylvania, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh.

Not much to update yet, just been doing little things like cleaning it, inspecting things etc. Should be working on it by the weekend.

Not too much done yet, ordered new rotors and pads for the rear, should be here Friday.

Saw Jrors toothbrush method for the wiper cowl, worked amazing. (Although I didn't use soap, used a cleaner called La's Totaly Awesome Best all purpose cleaner I've ever used)

Before and after pics:

Also working on sanding and painting the wiper arms:

(I'll post a another pic when I get them finished)

Also going to start doing the body work next month, for the paint job i think for now i'm going to just do a black primer job. Not sure how it would turn out though. I also heard that doing just primer will hold moisture and cause surface rust, is this true? (this is my first car to be honest and pretty new to alot of this, been around garages all my life and helped people many times though)

Forgot to mention it needs a valve cover gasket but people told me it would be cheaper and easier to just change the plugs every now and then. This wont damage anything leaving it run like this will it? The exhaust does smoke a good bit because of this.

Things may come to a halt.. :(

Haven't been able to lift the car yet, but I took some pics underneath it... I hope it's mostly just surface rust.

Opinions?

WOW. you will need new trailing arms for sure. the rest you could probably hit with a grinding disk and some spray paint. but dang. we dont get cars like that out here on the west coast... salted roads.. It might be easier to get a complete rear out of a "pull a part" and repaint and install. Its pretty easy to change out.

Yeah salt kills in pa. And owners who don't care for their cars :( I'm going to try and save what can be underneath and go from there.
