seafoam treatment

Post by Haley »

Ok, so I got my seafoam today, I've searched the site and found tons of posts about it but nothing about where to put it. I know 1/3 in gas tank, 1/3 in oil, where does the other 1/3 go? Brake booster? Saw that on the internet and dont know what it is...or where it is.
Also read that you have to have engine running while doing this and do I need to unplug the pcv?

You want to suck it into the intake manifold while the engine is running, you can use the vacuum line that goes to your brake booster normally. Basically you let it run for a little while, you can rev it to ~3K rpms while it sits if you'd like. After that, just drive until the smoke clears(there will be smoke, a LOT of smoke...)

Honestly, it's almost worth the money just for the smoke trail. I left a loooooong one down an empty old highway in my city when I seafoamed my intake. That was fun, for sure :D

I can't say anything about the PCV, but I didn't unplug mine when I did it. Are you a member on probetalk by any chance? They've got a larger member base, and share engines with us(when we swap); They've also got thousands more threads than we do, many of which include this and other fixes.

Hope I helped! :)

It's called the "Power Brake Unit" in this diagram. The vacuum hose (#4) goes to the intake. Just pull it off the brake booster and put it in the bottle with the engine running and suck it up into the intake...then reconnect the hose to the booster and watch the smoke show.

you also want to turn the car off after you suck it up and let it soak in for 5-10min before the smoke show. suck it up very slowly as well, you dont want to hrydo lock your motor.

ive also herd its not good to run it in your oil for an extended period of time. change your oil after a 300km or so...

I second the brief running time for the oil, I forgot to mention that.

I have a video of when I seafoamed my k8. I'd upload it but I acted like a tard in it...I have a habit of doing that.
I poured it all in the intake through brake booster vac line. I stuck a funnel in the hose and used my free hand to operate the throttle when it bogged down. I let it sit for 30 minutes then I started it up and rev'ed it up till it cleared up. There was a massive amount of smoke and I would highly recommend not driving it in a populated area as you will be asking for a ticket. It would look pretty cool tho. I live in a city, so I wouldn't try it. About 10 minutes after I shut the car down a firetruck went up the road...not sure if it was because of me or not.

Edit- I failed to mention that my engine had 270,000 km on it and burned oil pretty bad. After the seafoam treatment it actually made the blue smoke worse. Probably cause it cleaned up the carbon around the valve seals and rings, which might have been holding back a little of the oil from making its way into the cylinder.

Ya simple, pour 1/3 to 1/2 can in while your engine's running, I had another person to rev it just a little if it started to stall. The idea is to get all the fluid in before it stalls then immediately shut the engine off and wait 10mins. Start it up and let it clear out. Takes about 2-3 mins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRAV5ln5cUc
