how do you separate the motor from an atx?

Post by neli_nael »

i'm in the process of taking my b6 out and i can't get the motor off the tranny (auto - idk if that matters). i want to just take out the motor even tho i've read it'll make things simpler if i took out the tranny also. i just don't want to mess with the axles. i can't see anymore tranny bolts but seems like i might have missed one or a few. i removed 3 on the bottom 1 by the starter and the top 2 main bolts. i tried prying it apart but i didn't want to break anything. did i miss a bolt? hard to tell from the manual where the bolts are.

on the exhaust side by the motor mount bracket there should be another bolt. then the torque converter bolts before you split it. It is hard to do it with an ATX and not pulling the axles. you will probably need to pull the driver side at the least.
