Oil spilled on carpet

Post by coolen »

So I was vacuuming out my new to me car today, and come to find out that the previous owner spilled a large amount of what I believe is motor oil on the floor behind the drivers seat. I tried to sop up as much as I could with rags, and I even tried diapers. Which actually didn't work too bad, but it's still pretty saturated. Any thoughts on how one may go about absorbing that out of the carpet?

Thanks

you could take the carpet out and pressure wash it which is a little bit of work, maybe....steam clean?

When I swamped the truck, I took the whole interior out to be able to take out the carpet, and hosed it down.

Absofuckinglutely the best idea is to remove your carpet but if your lazy (like most of us lol) you can use liquid laundry soap on the oil. Then use a shop vac and a garden hose to gently spray the area while your vacuuming. If you remove the carpet still use liquid laundry soap and your hose to rinse it out.

Oh ya, if you can definitely take it out and use a good degreaser on it, and one tip,let the carpet dry out COMPLETELY before putting it back in the car, otherwise the evaporating water doesn't have a good way to escape.
