Well, I introduced myself so that's out of the way, and I know some of you wanted to see my worklog so here is it! Doin some work to this egg!

So far, just cleaned it a few days ago. I can't believe I already owned her over a week! But this week, going to do a few things. I first quickly sprayed the wipers, front and rear with some wrinkle black, looks much nicer than surface rust. I also decided to paint the emblem in the front wrinkle too, since i'm going to be fixing and spraying my lip soon. I was thinking of debadging, but then I thought.....screw it, let's be different! If you want a picture of those two things, then I can take some haha

The main thing I did today was tint the tails, and side markers. I'm also going to slightly tint the clear front turns when I get them. I took pictures of all this so don't worry, this thread will have pics hopefully tomorrow when I finish off the lights

I'm getting a lot of goodies for this thing so i'll definetly keep this updated for you picture and build thread whores

Well, i'm doing the same process that I did on the GTI, that I took over from my model car experience. Throw down a mist coat then some good color coats, same with the clear, with drying times in between. Then when all dry and cured, wet sand with my model car polishing cloths then lay down a nice coat of polish. I used Tamiya Smoke and Testor's Window tint on the GTI I used the rest of that on the lights but it didn't last long so I went with the tint I bought, VHT Night Shade. For clear, just used some Krylon Gloss that we use for models. I like the Tamiya Smoke because it's thinner and I like the color better but the Night Shade is very nice and sprays well, you just have to do some quick swipes if you don't want DARK.

Ah sounds like a pretty well done process. You can always tell when someone takes there time and dose it right. I love night shade to =] I keep the spray tops off them haha.

Oh nice, yeah I live east of Lancaster acutally I like it here, we have some of the best scenic/mountain/hill roads around!

Alright everyone, keep your drawers on here's the pics

First, since it was nice out yesterday, figured, why not do the lights! Earlier I quick did the wipers wrinkle black, looks so much nicer than surface rust lol and also did the emblem, really came out nicely, all wrinkly

I first just took all the side lights and tails out, I first started on the tails. I cleaned and degreased them first. Then I set up my paint area......back yard and newspaper on the ground..WORD! I did one at a time. First, layed down a mist coat of the rest of my Tamiya Smoke....which only lasted a mist coat haha. Waited 2-3 minutes then put down a nice but quick coat of the Night Shade being careful not to stay in one spot and risk getting too dark. After letting that dry about 5 min. I put on the last coat. Again, nice but quick swipes. Then let her sit for 10 minutes so I could eat my sandwich. After the paint cured enough, I did the same procedure for the clear coat, except I did a slower swipe and really thorough, (like I learned in auto body school and models) I repeated that step and layed down 3-4 coats of clear with about 5-10 minutes flash time for the clear in between coats, you want a decent amount of clear so you can wet sand later. Doing both lights took over an hour easily, I was paying attention really For the side lights, I didn't really go as heavy as I did with the lights, because it really isn't needed. I just threw down a couple tint coats and a few quick clear coats.
Now, the reason I didn't take any pictures was that I was letting it fully cure before wetsanding, important because do it to quick and the clear can still be soft! But you all are just impatient

No, it's messed up not really bad, I think I could finesse it out, but to be honest........it's really not that bad haha
