Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
This doesn't seem hard. I've done a bunch of these in the past year on about 4 differant vehicals. Just do it. spend an couple of hours. WD40 the hell out of the bolt every 15 mins. then just keep trying.......?

Nothing seems hard from behind a computer.BrandonM wrote:This doesn't seem hard. I've done a bunch of these in the past year on about 4 differant vehicals. Just do it. spend an couple of hours. WD40 the hell out of the bolt every 15 mins. then just keep trying.......?
I have had a Millennia CS bolt (KJ-ZEM) that took be the best part of 2 days to take off, and when I finally did, the Impact socket I had bough brand new at AAP was completely mangled.
These are old cars. Add to that the years in the snow, and sometimes those bolts can be nearly impossible to get off.
Evo: one final suggestion: once you get it out, Not only spread some anti-seize on the threads (duh), but also in the inside of the pulley center hole. It'll make your life much easier the next time...

Its going to be one of those things where you're trying and trying and getting angry, and then all of a sudden it will just come off, and you'll be all "wtf did I do different?"
Like putting axles back in, or taking them out for that matter. Same deal.

yeah i remember my first time doing axles, now that i've done it a couple times their nothing, i guess it'll be the same with this.Inodoro Pereyra wrote:thanks, i totally didn't think about that.BrandonM wrote:Evo: one final suggestion: once you get it out, Not only spread some anti-seize on the threads (duh), but also in the inside of the pulley center hole. so just my luck, my first day off again that i was hoping to work on the car, it starts pouring snow down like no tomorrow, i think i'll still try getting this bolt out cause it'll probably be smooth sailing from there
Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
No ones mention this but if you remove the spark plugs you'll get more starter torque and that should do the job. As far as impact guns go not all are created equal. Some of the cheaper (entry level) ones just don't have enough balls to do the job. Finally, in a moment of desperation you can simply blow up your car with a generous quanity of C4. Blame it on al-Qaida and let CSIS work it out.

Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
yeah so far the starter trick hasn't done anything for me and i think it's because of my dead battery, the booster can't charge it enough to be fully effective, only good enough to probably turn it over to start it.Daninski wrote:No ones mention this but if you remove the spark plugs you'll get more starter torque and that should do the job. Yeah the impact gun i was using was apparently broken because i tried to take off a lug nut and it couldn't do the job and i know the lug nuts aren't on THAT tight.
i'll try borrowing the electric impact gun my uncle had, i didn't pick it up the first time cause i thought it would be too big to fit in the wheel well. (forgot to mention this but i'm actually doing this on the ground with the wheels all on)

Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
Hmmm... could you find a more difficult way to do it?Evo_Spec wrote: (forgot to mention this but i'm actually doing this on the ground with the wheels all on)

Try to get a set of 1/2" impact extensions. With them, if you turn the steering all the way to the right, you might get enough room to do it with the wheel on.

Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
yeah.....hopefully getting the electric impact works cause if not i'm pretty much screwed, i really don't feel like buying a bunch of tools just to do this one job.Inodoro Pereyra wrote:Hmmm... could you find a more difficult way to do it?Evo_Spec wrote: (forgot to mention this but i'm actually doing this on the ground with the wheels all on)![]()

my other thought is maybe getting a 21mm wrench (because i'll be able to get to it from the top) and make some kind of super extension about 500ft long and attaching a rocket at the top, and that should give me enough torque to take it off =)
Re: HELP! crankshaft pulley removal
I'd try an extension around 152.4 m instead.Evo_Spec wrote:Inodoro Pereyra wrote:make some kind of super extension about 500ft long and attaching a rocket at the top, and that should give me enough torque to take it off =)Evo_Spec wrote: (forgot to mention this but i'm actually doing this on the ground with the wheels all on)

Hey I just had an idea, with a power bar securely held on the bolt have Inodoro bang his head on the bar. That bolt wouldn't stand a chance.
