Ok.. so ive finally gotten off my a-- to swap out the damn 1.6 dohc harness/ecu/maf/tps that has been plaguing my bp sw3apped mx3 with driveability issues..
a few final questions..
I've discovered i have a digital speedometer...
Ill be running a 1g escort gt harness.. there are no provisions for an electronic speedo... it's mechanical..
how do i keep my speedometer working!!!!!!!!!!
AND the last question... Has anyone ever done a wiring schematic for, or attempted to, swap from a MAF to a VAF splicing/rewiring the factory 1.6L DOHC harness??
When i attempted to plug in my egt ecu into my dohc rs harness on the bp.. the car got power, all dash worked fine, fuel pump worked, ignition worked, car cranked, sparked, turned over, idled for a few seconds.. and died.
Im leading to believe that this is due to the 1G ECU expecting a VAF readout.. and seeing a MAF readout.
Someone has shown how to swap from a 2G distributor (internal coil) to a 1g distributor while reusing the factory mx3 dohc harness.. so i figure i'd ask if it's been done with a MAF to VAF conversion.
My maf on the mx3 dohc harness has 5 wires.
my 1g BP VAF has 7 wires.
anyone savvy want to help me figure this out? is it figure out-able? haha

Make this to keep your electric speedo:

Just switch the harness to a DOHC protege and you can avoid all that headache
of question #2. Its much much easier. Swap two wires and plug and play with
the external coil Distributor.

So to go from a mechanical tranny to a electronic speedo i require this contraption.
Having said that.. my tranny is the 1.6L DOHC transmission.. and it's already electronic speedo/sensor etc.
Does that mean i dont have to do anything to my speedo sensor/cluster?
The plug and harness that go from the VSS.. is it a standalone plug/harness?(is it tied into the mx3 engine harness in any way?????) beacuse if it's not, then i totally see how i wouldnt have to touch anything. im keeping the F series for a while... but i need a 1g harness..

gotta realize.. it's not just me driving the car. i can get by with just a tach fine.. but the wife.. errrmno
ALSO had another thought.... So.. i plugged in my egt 1g ecu originally.. and like i said.. i got power, she cranked, she started, she ran.. and she died..
Also noted that im almost 100% that it's the VAF not being read by the ecu which is expecting a VAF.. not MAF..
i got fuel fine..
i got power fine..
i got spark and ignition fine..
but im not getting a proper meter signal.
couldnt i find a protege ecu for my corresponding year motor, and plug that in? the newer gen bp's were MAF in the proteges, is there a remote possibility that a new gen bp ecu would pnp into the mx3 dohc harness?
or a bpvr ecu???????

If you have the F series your golden, use the electric speedo on it with no problems.
As for the rest just get a Protege / EGT harness. Your not going to be able to mix and
match this at all. BP needs BP ECU and BP harness to run right unless you buy a standalone.
