I have just had the exact thing happen to me just now - the connector part that goes into the hose broke off.

Looking to somehow avoid using one of these connectors. Any suggestions on what a reliable fix is when this piece breaks?

One the other hand if you could find dealer who can sell the disconnect a new one would probably last for another 15 - 20 years. The connectors are part #B45561240A. I haven't actually tried to buy one, but it is at least listed.

You could probably buy some type of plastic connector and then put that inside both sides of the hose and clamp both. The hose is long enough to flex.

As I mentioned a couple years ago, I just went to the junkyard and got spares of this unusual part.

When mine broke during my swap I just got a slightly longer section of the same size hose, removed the coupler completely and slid the hose over the barb that the conector rides on and clamped it directly to the heater core there. Works perfectly.

I am with Ryan on this one they are brittle junk, just lose them & change to a screw down hose clamp. Attatch the hose directly onto the thermostat housing. I do it all the time, never had a problem.

Mine broke during my swap and for 2 years I've been trying to get the broken remnants off of the heater core pipe with no luck. I have stretched a piece of heater hose over the broken fitting and clamped it on with a hose clamp but it's smooth so every now and then it just pops off. Last time it popped of it was dark, and -32ºC. Not super fun.

Why the heck can't I get that thing off?

Well when mine came apart we used a combination of a quick disconnect tool and snap-on picks to get it to release. I just held the picks in on the side locks while my tech friend pushed on the quick release to snap it off.

Well mine broke at the end that goes into the hose, rendering it useless. I couldn't be f'd taking it off properly because it was a true bastard and just broke it off since it was already broken.

Wytbishop, can you cut the whole thing off? That's what I would do/did :P
