Installing JDM Headlights
Installing JDM Headlights
I'm looking to install my new JDM headlights. Can the H4 harness be spliced directly into the factory wiring, or is there anything else I need to worry about?

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
Mine were spliced directly in. I had to unbolt the bumper as the JDM lights have a lip on the bottom that ours don't have. It's none of my business but why JDM. They're ment to aim differently than ours so it's hard to aim them and the projector headlights we can buy now illuminate the road so much better.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
Thanks Dan. I have projector headlights at the moment, and while the lighting is amazing, they look a little too tacky for my taste
I went with the JDM because I love the blacked out look with the painted housing and separate reflector.

Do you happen to remember which wires spliced to which? I haven't had a chance to compare them side by side.

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
instead of JDM you should get EDM's, their glass so they never fog up.
as for the wiring, there's a ground then 2 power wires (high/low) should be black for ground and then other 2 are.......green/yellow or something, their both the same which is kinda stupid cause their different colors on the H4 harness but if you slice it in wrong it's not really important because it's really easy pull the actual connectors from the H4 plug, so you can just switch them around (just push a 1mm allen key or something from the front and they slide out)

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
yeah I agree with Evo... if you are going to go with OEM H4 get glass ones. He's right about the wiring too... just hook up the ground and 1 wire then you can determine if it's the high or low beam by where the switch is set in the car.

i wish i thought about that before i soldered it, do what moon said and test the connection first =P (just saves having to swap the wires, which is easy anyways)Mooneggs wrote:yeah I agree with Evo... if you are going to go with OEM H4 get glass ones. Re: Installing JDM Headlights
The JDM ones are just as good or better then the EDM ones in terms of brightness and cutoff. I have had both and the JDM ones seemed to work better, they are slightly different inside. Much better then the OEM lights.
Also, the plastic doesnt fog like the USDM ones do, and they are smooth so they are easy to maintain AND you never need to worry about a rock smashing the lense like you do with the glass ones AND they are usually cheaper and easier to find then the EDM ones. So, I say go for it if you have them already

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
Hah thanks for the back-up solo. I was in the market for glass headlights, but after a good bit of searching around I sourced the JDM lights at a much cheaper price.
Thanks for the help guys, I'll be installing them ASAP.

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
JDM lights are now wired up and installed. Lighting is dim compared to the projectors with HID's, but a noticeable improvement over stock.
Wiring was simple:
Black -> Black
Red/White -> Red/White
Red -> Red/Green

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
I have a JDM "Eunos Presso", and its stock lights are great... Glad you went with JDM ones, as they're much more solid that the projectors and, like solo said, are a better bet all-round IMO...

Re: Installing JDM Headlights
Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised at the improvement in lighting over the stock headlights. The JDM lights even have a pretty noticeable cut-off, similar to the projectors.
