The good part is the speedo gear is nowhere near the shift gears nor the forks, so I don't think your tranny may have suffered any serious damage. Most probably it got lodged between the shifter rod and the case, and it's not letting the rod move.
So, other than the work it takes to open up the tranny, you should be ok.
