Am I getting too old for this sh***?

Post by imprtfan »

So I bought my 92 gs over 10 years ago now, dumped a crapload of money on exterior and stereo...rims. Parked it in late 06 for further klze swap and here I am. I have a complete body kit, evo autobahn front clip from andy's, hatch shade from corksport, 18'' white Konig Zieges with chrome lip, CF hood, Z3 fenders, supra style taillights, I had just put in a sound sysytem with the latest pioneer head unit and 4 way speaker, test pipe, exhaust, new ACT stage 3 clutch that does not even have 1k on it. was painted Spectramaster green..( I had fast n furious fever  )
Now I'm almost 29 and it has been sitting all gthis time...I find myself thinking, do I want to sell or go for broke?
The engine starts and she drives but I wanna do a klze swap, I got side tracked with a bunch of other projects that I have done. I now want a different color paint, rotors are rusted , some electronics are not working from sitting.
Looks like getting it back to finished is gonna be another $5k (I'm guessing) what is your guys feedback?
My mx-3 was bad in her day, was top rated on cardomain for a while...was always a work in progress. Would you guys finish it or cut all losses now? Need some good advice.
Just got done my 94 300zx convertible TTswap , and supercharged 2005 Lotus Elise

Also I feel like the 'scene'' for custom imports is dead. I t use to be huge around here ( northern Va) now you might see a few Integras lowered on tacky colored rims...is that the new thing? :confused2:
Seems all the street cruisers drive STI's and Neon srt  now.

ZE swap is not near 5K. Mine cost me about 2500 total and the motor was 1500 of that. They sell for like 8-900 now. Do the swap yourself or with some buddies and I bet you van get it done properly for 1200 or cheap for about a grand.

I'm 31, bought a 96 GS for $700, and still put in to it what you have/plan too.

29yo and too old for this. Hmm I guess I better pack it in to then I'm only 55yo. I live in a small town where most people live on less than $40k a year so there is no "scene" here. I do what I do for me and I enjoy cruising around in my little white bomb. This decision is yours and yours alone and I think you already know the answer. One way or the other I call dibs on your Hatch Shade. :D

If the body is still solid and the under frame is good why not finish what you stated,,ZE that SOB.

Like MX3-4U2NV said; don't let age dictate your hobbies.

As far as working on the rest of the stuff... Well Work work, zug zug! I've been tucking away cash for a while to work on my MX3. Now I am getting rid of my truck for the last boost in cash before I start the work on it.

As far as the money needed to work on that, looking under 3k for everything save the bodywork. Probably less depending on what you need want to do with it.

Do what you can to make it driveable, then worry about looks later. I would much rather have a car that was crazy to drive and have it not look so great than have a nice looking car that sucked performance-wise. But, to each is own...

If you didn't do any body work or paint, it could drop off maybe 1500 out of that cost.

Truly custom imports are dropping away here in my city too. There's VTEC, more VTEC, even more VTEC, and VERY recently a massive surge in "New Muscle"(Mustangs/Camaros/Challengers).

Either way, do what makes you happy.

These cars are a rarity, no matter where you live. Keep her running well, clean and maintained, don't try to "race" everybody on the road. If all import "tuners" did these things, the scene would still be running strong.

Good luck.

PS: For my part, I hope you finish the car!! Post everything you've done already either way, we can always learn or advise.
