Pacesetter STS, any thoughts?

Post by MrMazda92 »

I've seen some good stuff about these, but I wanted to hear from more people about them, so here goes.

http://www.pacesetterexhaust.com/quikshift.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Does the fact that this STS is adjustable mean it will have more slop? I'd think that it could possibly vibrate enough that the ball changes position(unless it's a very tight fit, quite likely).

What is the approximate height of the pacesetter in an MX-3 in relation to the stock shifter?

I have one of Jesse's reduced throw knobs as well.

I'm picky about the height of the shifter, I'm just OCD I guess.

Also, what are the min/max throw reduction percentages for these?

Thanks guys!

I was anal about this issue too. Then I decided to just buy one of the cheap eBay STS's, and cut it down until it was the height I wanted. Then I used a die (whatever the stock thread size is), and threaded what was left of the shaft.

I've had it for about a year, and I love it.

I have the pacesetter STS in both of my mx-3's. It can be adjusted down to 80% reduced throw which is what I have on my Daily Driver. I have it reduced to about 75% on the Race Car. I have never had an issue with the ball vibrating away... I've had mine installed in both cars for years ith no problems.

Keep in mind you will need custom exhaust routed around the shifter in order to get the full reduced throw! The stock exhaust will only let you reduce it to about 60% or so...

I was under the impression that they didn't sell them anymore though...

Hmm, do you happen to remember the seller's name so I could take a look? Is it just a generic STS? What was the throw reduction from stock? Thanks for the input.

@Mooneggs
Ah, my main thing is I haven't used a short throw in a long time. The only 2 cars I drove with them were a 2007 Mustang GT, and a 90 something Miata.

I'm leaning towards the pacesetter mainly due to the adjustable throw feature. Feel is extremely important to me, and if something doesn't fit just right it just doesn't work for me.

Where would I look to see if they're still for sale?

Know anyone who might happen to have a used one laying around? I'll take a peak in WTB and FS.

yeah the adjustable is nice since you can get it right to where you like it. I originally had a B+M and it only reduces the throw 42% and I just wasn't happy with that (it wasn't low enough for me).

I have no idea where you can buy one nowadays... I tried looking a while ago but didn't have any luck.
